WIC Nutrition Services Standards

Important Announcement August 26, 2015: The WIC Works Resource System will be undergoing some system changes. In preparation for this, State and local agencies using the Nutrition Services Standards (NSS) self-assessment tool need to be able to pause their work by September 11, 2015. Any changes after this date will not be saved to your NSS account. In addition, those with any WIC Learning Online (WLOL) courses in progress need to complete their work by September 30, 2015. After this date, the WIC Works Resource System will be temporarily unavailable.

It is important to note that, although NSS self-assessment users are being asked to pause their work by September 11, 2015, the WIC Works Resource System site will be available until September 30, 2015, therefore WIC staff may still access the site, order publications, and download resources up to this date. We will provide an estimated date when the WIC Works Resource System will be available in the near future.

We appreciate your patience while the WIC Works Resource System is temporarily unavailable.

The WIC Nutrition Services Standards (NSS) describe quality nutrition services for State and local agencies
regardless of the setting in which agencies provide services. The Nutrition Services Standards were developed
through a joint effort between FNS and the National WIC Association.

The NSS were created to assist State and local agencies in their continual efforts to improve the services they provide by focusing on core elements that are essential to providing high quality nutrition services.
They also assist State and local agencies in setting expectations for WIC Program performance that are
reasonable, achievable and measurable.

In addition to the Standards, State and local agencies may utilize the online self-assessment tool.
